We connect property owners with restoration crews. We are not the crew.
SiFixit is a referral service for water damage, mold and biohazard situations across the United States. This page explains exactly what that means, and how we make money.
What SiFixit actually does
SiFixit is a referral service for property owners in the United States dealing with water damage, mold growth or a biohazard situation. You describe what happened and where the property is. We pass that to an independent restoration company that already works your market, and they contact you directly.
We do not perform restoration work. No SiFixit employee will arrive at your property. The crew that shows up belongs to a separate business with its own state licensing and insurance, and the contract for the work is between you and them.
Why a referral service exists at all
The hour after a pipe bursts is a bad time to be comparing companies. Most people open a search page, start calling down the list, and reach voicemail or an answering service that books them three days out. Meanwhile the water is still travelling into the subfloor.
What we do is narrow: take one description of the problem and put it in front of a company that covers that ZIP code and can act on it. That is the whole service.
How we are paid, stated plainly
Restoration companies pay us for the referrals we send. Property owners pay nothing, and submitting a request creates no obligation to hire anyone.
That arrangement gives us an obvious interest in you submitting the form, and you should read this site knowing that. It also means we are not the ones writing your invoice, so we have no reason to tell you a job is bigger than it is.
Who runs this
SiFixit is owned and operated by Muhammad Ishaq Hassan. The site was built in 2026 and is run as an independent business, not as a front for any particular restoration franchise or network.
If something on this site is wrong, unclear or reads as a sales pitch rather than an answer, say so. The contact address is on the contact page and it is read by a person.
What we publish, and what we will not
The guides on this site cover the things people actually need in the first hour: the categories of water and why they change the scope, what to photograph before anything is moved, how structural drying works, how mold remediation is supposed to be sequenced, and who usually pays for biohazard cleanup.
Things we deliberately leave off:
- Response times we cannot hold a provider to
- Cost figures we cannot source
- Reviews, ratings or awards we have not earned
- Certifications and licences belonging to somebody else
- Medical claims about mold exposure, which belong with a doctor
Where the honest answer is “it depends on your property”, that is what the page says.
Standards we reference
Our guides refer to published industry standards: the IICRC S500 for water damage restoration, the ANSI/IICRC S520 for mold remediation, and the OSHA bloodborne pathogens standard for biohazard work. Referring to a standard describes how the industry works. It is not a claim that SiFixit is certified or endorsed by those bodies, and you should confirm any individual provider’s credentials directly with them.
In short
A referral service, not a restoration contractor. Free for property owners. Paid by the companies in the network. Operating across metro markets in 15 states.
Ask any provider for these
Before work begins, and before you sign anything:
- State licence number
- Certificate of insurance
- Written scope of work

Four steps, and only the first is on you
You describe the loss
ZIP code, what happened, and whether water is still coming in. About a minute, and it is the only form you fill in.
We pick the market
Your ZIP maps to a market in the network, and emergencies are flagged so they are not queued behind an inspection.
A local company calls
From their own number, to confirm access and arrival. You speak to the people who will do the work.
You decide
Get the scope in writing before work starts. Say no and nothing is owed to us either way.
