1. Who we are
SiFixit operates the website at sifixit.com. We are a referral service: we take a property owner's description of a water damage, mold or biohazard situation and pass it to an independent restoration company that works that market. We do not carry out restoration work ourselves, and the company that contacts you is a separate business with its own licensing, insurance and privacy practices.
2. What we collect
Information you give us through the request form:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- Your email address, where you provide one
- The ZIP code of the affected property
- The type of damage or service needed
- Any notes you choose to add about the situation
- The fact that you ticked the consent box, and when
Information collected automatically when you visit:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Browser type, device type and operating system
- Pages viewed, time on page and the site or search that referred you
- Cookie identifiers used by analytics
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, Social Security numbers, financial account details, medical records or any other sensitive personal information. Nothing on this site requires it.
3. Why we collect it
The request form exists for one purpose: to route your enquiry to a restoration company that can attend the property. The ZIP code selects the market, the service type routes it to the right kind of provider, and your name and phone number let that provider call you back.
Automatic data is used to keep the site working, to understand which pages are useful, and to detect abuse of the form.
4. Who we share it with
The restoration provider matched to your ZIP code. This is the entire point of submitting the form. Your details are passed to that provider so they can contact you directly. Once they hold your information, their own privacy policy governs what they do with it, and we ask you to read it before engaging them.
We also use service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Website hosting
- Form handling and email delivery
- Analytics
We will also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of people using this site.
Restoration companies pay us for the referrals we send them. Under some US state privacy laws that arrangement may be treated as a sale or sharing of personal information, even though you asked us to pass your request on. You can ask us to stop sharing your information at any time using the contact details below.
5. Consent to be contacted
By submitting the request form and ticking the consent box, you agree that a restoration provider in our network may contact you about your request by phone, text message or email, including where your number is on a do-not-call list, because you are asking them to call you.
Consent is for this request. It is not consent to ongoing marketing, and you can tell any provider to stop contacting you at any time. If you receive contact you did not ask for, tell us at info@sifixit.com and we will raise it with the provider.
6. Cookies
This site uses cookies to keep the site functioning and, where analytics are installed, to understand how pages are used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop the request form from working.
7. How long we keep it
Request details are kept for as long as needed to route the request, handle any follow-up or complaint, and meet record-keeping obligations, and are then deleted.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask for a copy of it
- Ask us to correct it
- Ask us to delete it
- Opt out of its sale or sharing, where those terms apply
- Not be treated differently for exercising any of these rights
Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and a growing number of other states have these rights under state law. To exercise them, email info@sifixit.com with enough detail for us to find your record, such as the phone number and ZIP code you submitted.
Note that once a provider has received your request, you may also need to contact that provider directly to have their copy deleted.
9. Children
This site is intended for property owners and adults acting on their behalf. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
The site runs over HTTPS and access to submitted requests is limited to people who need it. No website can promise perfect security, and we do not.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be described on this page rather than made quietly.
12. Contact
Privacy questions, requests and complaints go to info@sifixit.com.
